About the clock & timers

Timers and clocks that keep time properly. A timer here keeps the moment it will end, not a count of ticks, so a background tab, a locked phone or a laptop going to sleep changes nothing: it rings on time. The stopwatch records laps and splits to a hundredth of a second. The alarm clock rings at a time of day or after a number of minutes, the countdown shows the time to any date with a link you can share, and the focus timer runs the 25-minute Pomodoro rhythm with a task list.

The world clock and meeting planner compares cities side by side, with each city’s weekend and working hours marked, so you can find an hour that suits Doha, Karachi and London at once, and the time zone converter handles daylight saving properly, including the countries that have changed their rules. The sounds are synthesised in the browser, so there are no files to download, and the pages can keep the screen awake while a timer runs.

Frequently asked questions

Will the timer ring if I switch to another app?

On a computer, yes, as long as the tab stays open; the sound is scheduled when you press Start. On a phone the browser may silence a background tab after a while, so keep the page in front for long timers or use the alarm clock app for anything over an hour.

Why does the 5 minute timer have its own page?

Because that is what people search for and it saves a step: the page opens already set to five minutes, and one press starts it. The timer itself is the same on every length page.

Are the timers accurate?

To the millisecond of the browser’s clock. The timer stores the time it should end and compares with the clock on every redraw, so it never drifts, however busy the device is.

Does the world clock know about daylight saving?

Yes. It uses the time zone database built into the browser, which is updated with the operating system, so a country that changes its rules is handled once your device updates.
