About this tool

The Hijri (Islamic) calendar has twelve lunar months of 29 or 30 days, so its year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. This calendar uses Umm al-Qura, which Saudi Arabia calculates in advance from astronomical data and which most of the Gulf uses for official dates. The year 1448 AH began on 16 June 2026 and ends on 5 June 2027; 1449 AH begins on 6 June 2027.

Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah are confirmed by sighting the new moon, so Ramadan and the two Eids can fall a day later where you live than Umm al-Qura shows. In 2027, Ramadan is expected to begin on 8 February, Eid al-Fitr on 9 March and Eid al-Adha on 16 May. Mawlid is shown on 12 Rabiʻ al-Awwal; it is a public holiday in some countries, such as Pakistan and the UAE, and not in others.
