Why use Remove Tashkeel
All the marks
Fatha, kasra, damma, tanween, sukun, shadda, the dagger alef and Quranic marks are removed; letters and punctuation stay.
Keep the shadda
Remove the vowels but keep the shadda, which changes how a word is read.
Even out letters
One alef for أ إ آ, yeh for alef maqsura, heh for ta marbuta, and plain waw and yeh for hamza seats, as search engines do.
Digits both ways
Convert Arabic-Indic digits (١٢٣) and Urdu digits (۱۲۳) to 123, or the other way round.
About this tool
Tashkeel (التشكيل), also called harakat, are the small marks above and below Arabic letters that show the short vowels: fatha, kasra and damma, the tanween endings, sukun and shadda. They help with reading the Quran, poetry and children’s books, but they get in the way elsewhere: a search for a word with tashkeel misses the same word without it, some websites and forms reject them, and they make text harder to edit. This Arabic text cleaner removes them all at once, together with tatweel (ـ), the stretching line used to lengthen words.
For search, data and sorting, the letter options even out forms that are often typed interchangeably: alef with hamza or madda becomes a plain alef, alef maqsura (ى) becomes yeh (ي), and ta marbuta (ة) can become heh (ه). Digits can be converted from Arabic-Indic (١٢٣) or Urdu (۱۲۳) to Western (123) or back. The text is processed in your browser; to change only the numbers, use the Arabic numbers converter.
Frequently asked questions
What is tashkeel?
The marks that show short vowels and other sounds in Arabic: fatha, kasra, damma, the three tanween, sukun and shadda. Everyday Arabic is usually written without them.
Does removing tashkeel change the letters?
No. Only the marks go; every letter, space and punctuation mark stays. The letter options (alef, yeh, ta marbuta) change letters only if you switch them on.
Can I keep the shadda?
Yes. Switch on “Keep the shadda” and only the other marks are removed.
What is tatweel?
The horizontal stroke (ـ) that stretches a word, as in “الـمـدرسة”. It is decoration, not a letter, so it is removed too.
Does it work for Urdu?
Yes. Urdu uses the same marks, such as zabar, zer and pesh, and they are removed the same way. Urdu digits (۱۲۳) can be converted too.
Can I remove tashkeel from Arabic text online?
Yes. Paste the text and the harakat are removed online, in your browser, for free. Nothing is uploaded.
