About this tool
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default because the files are about half the size of JPGs. The catch is that many Windows programs, websites and upload forms still reject them.
This converter decodes HEIC in your browser with the open-source libheif library and saves a standard JPG or PNG. Personal photos are never sent anywhere.

What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the High Efficiency Image format that iPhones and iPads use for photos. It keeps quality high at small sizes, but support outside Apple devices is patchy.
Will I lose quality?
At quality 90, the difference is not visible. Choose PNG if you need lossless output, but expect larger files.
Is the location removed?
Yes. The converted image is re-drawn and does not include EXIF metadata such as GPS coordinates.
Why is the first conversion slower?
The HEIC decoder (about 1 MB) loads the first time you convert. After that it is cached by your browser.
Can I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Yes: Settings, Camera, Formats, then choose "Most Compatible". New photos will be saved as JPG.
