How to use Focus Timer (Pomodoro)

  1. Add what you are working on under Tasks. The first open task shows as "Now" beside the timer.
  2. Press Start focus and work on that one task until the bell rings after 25 minutes.
  3. Take the 5 minute break; after every fourth session the break is 15 minutes. Breaks can start by themselves.
  4. Tick tasks off as you finish them. Each finished session is added to the task you were working on.

Rings on time

The bell is scheduled when a session starts, so it rings on time in a background tab.

About this tool

The Pomodoro Technique, created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s and named after his tomato-shaped kitchen timer, splits work into focused sessions, traditionally 25 minutes, with a short break after each and a longer break after four. A clear end point makes it easier to start, and the breaks keep your attention fresh over a long day of study or work.

This focus timer keeps the method simple: one task at a time, shown beside the clock, and a bell at the end of each session. If 25 minutes feels short for deep work, try 50 minute sessions with 10 minute breaks. Your tasks and session count are kept in this browser, and the count starts again each day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

A way of working in timed sessions, usually 25 minutes of focus and a 5 minute break, with a longer break after four sessions. Each session is one "pomodoro".

Can I change the session lengths?

Yes. Press Change under Session lengths to set focus from 1 to 180 minutes, breaks up to 60 minutes and a long break after 2 to 12 sessions.

Are my tasks saved?

Yes, in this browser on this device only. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data removes them.

What if I get interrupted?

Press Pause and carry on later, or Reset to start the session again. Skip moves straight to the break, or back to focus.

Is it good as a study timer?

Yes. Short, timed sessions with breaks are a popular way to study, and the task list keeps track of which subject each session went to.

Is this pomodoro timer free online?

Yes. This focus timer is free online with no sign-up, and your settings stay on your device.
