How to use Passport Size Photo

  1. Add a photo of yourself, or take a selfie on your phone. Face the camera; the background can be anything.
  2. The tool finds your face, straightens it, centres it at passport size and removes the background, all on your device.
  3. Pick a white or blue background and the size. If a form has a limit, choose a file size such as 50 KB.
  4. Download the JPG, or a print sheet with several copies on 4 × 6 in, A4 or Letter paper.

About this tool

A passport size photo is a small head-and-shoulders portrait. In most countries it is 35 × 45 mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm); in the United States it is 2 × 2 inches. Job applications, university and school forms, ID cards, bank accounts and SIM registrations often ask for one, usually on a plain white or blue background.

This tool makes one from almost any photo. It finds your face, turns the photo so your head is straight, sets your head at the usual height for the size and swaps the background for plain white or blue. The AI models run in your browser: the first photo downloads them once (about 43 MB), and your photo never leaves your device. For a passport or visa application, use the official photo maker instead, because passport offices want the original background and reject edited photos.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a passport size photo?

Most countries use 35 × 45 mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm), which is 413 × 531 pixels at 300 DPI. The United States uses 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm, 600 × 600 pixels). The tool also makes 1.5 × 2 in, 30 × 40 mm and 40 × 60 mm photos.

How do I change my photo background to white?

Add your photo and keep "White" selected. The tool removes the old background on your device and fills it with pure white. Choose "Blue" for a blue background instead.

Can I use this for my passport or visa?

Usually not. Passport and visa offices want your photo with its original background and reject edited photos. For those, use our passport photo maker, which crops your photo to the official size without changing it.

Can I make a passport size photo under 50 KB?

Yes. Choose "Under 50 KB" as the file size limit. The tool lowers the JPG quality just enough to fit and keeps the full pixel size. 20, 100 and 200 KB limits work the same way.

How many passport photos fit on a 4 × 6 print?

Six 35 × 45 mm photos or six 2 × 2 in photos fit on one 4 × 6 in print. Download the print sheet and print it at 100% (actual size) at home or at a photo shop.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Finding your face and removing the background both run in your browser with on-device AI models. Your photo is never sent to a server.

Is this passport size photo maker free online?

Yes. It is a free online maker and converter: pick the country, and it crops your photo to the right dimensions and makes a print sheet, with no sign-up and no upload.
