How to use Compress Image to 50 KB

  1. Add your photo. Phone photos, scans and screenshots all work.
  2. The target is already set to 50 KB. Keep JPG, the format most forms ask for.
  3. Click "Compress to 50 KB". Quality is reduced first; the size shrinks only if needed.
  4. Download the JPG. Its name ends in "-50kb" so it is easy to find.

Why use Compress Image to 50 KB

Under 50 KB every time

Files stay under 50,000 bytes, so they pass forms that count a kilobyte as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.

Keeps faces sharp

At 50 KB a portrait usually keeps a width of several hundred pixels.

Batch friendly

Compress a photo and a signature, or several people's photos, in one go.

Nothing uploaded

Your ID photos are processed on your own device.

About this tool

Online job, exam and visa portals often ask for a photo between 20 and 50 KB, usually as a JPG. A larger file is rejected, and many portals do not say why. Compressing to just under 50 KB keeps the photo as sharp as the limit allows.

If a portal also asks for a size in pixels or centimetres, such as 35 × 45 mm, resize the photo to that size first and then compress it here. A plain, light background and good light make the biggest difference to how clear a small photo looks.

Frequently asked questions

What size in pixels is a 50 KB photo?

It depends on the image. A passport-style portrait can usually stay several hundred pixels wide under 50 KB as a JPG. The tool shows the final size in pixels.

Why does the form still reject my photo?

Check the other rules too: the format (usually JPG), the dimensions in pixels and the background colour. File size is only one of them.

Is 50 KB the same as 50,000 bytes?

Some forms count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes. The tool stays under 50,000 bytes, so it passes either way.

Will my photo lose quality?

If the original is already under 50 KB it is kept as it is. Otherwise some quality is traded for size, but at 50 KB a portrait usually still looks clear.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.
