How to use Countdown

  1. Type what you are counting down to, then pick the date and, if it matters, the time.
  2. The countdown clock starts at once: days, hours, minutes and seconds left, with the date written out in full.
  3. Or tap a ready-made countdown: Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha or the New Year.
  4. Press Share countdown to send a link; it opens the same countdown on any phone or computer.

Why use Countdown

Share a link

The link carries your date and title, so friends and family see the same countdown. Nothing is stored on a server.

Ramadan and Eid

Ready-made countdowns use Umm al-Qura dates, with the Hijri date shown under the Gregorian one.

Full screen

Put the countdown on a TV or a classroom screen; it updates every second.

Days left in the tab

The time left shows in the browser tab, so you can keep an eye on an event countdown from your other tabs.

About this tool

A countdown turns a date into something you can see coming: how many days until an exam, a wedding, a trip or a launch. This countdown clock shows the days, hours, minutes and seconds left, and once the date has passed it counts the time since. It follows your device’s clock and time zone, so a countdown to midnight means midnight where you are.

Sharing needs no account: the date and title go into the link itself, and whoever opens it sees the same countdown in their own time zone. The ready-made countdowns to Ramadan and the two Eids use the Umm al-Qura calendar, so the first day can move by one day where the month starts with a moon sighting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I share my countdown?

Press Share countdown. On a phone you can send it straight to an app; on a computer the link is copied, ready to paste into a message.

Does the countdown use my time zone?

Yes. The date and time are in the time zone of the device showing the countdown.

What happens when the date passes?

The countdown turns into a count of the time since the date.

Is my countdown saved?

Only in the link. Keep the link, or bookmark the page after you press Share, to come back to it.

Can I count down to a time as well as a date?

Yes. Set the time of day too, such as 6:30 PM for an iftar or the start of a meeting, and the countdown runs to that exact minute in your time zone.

Is this a countdown timer?

It counts down to a date and time. For a countdown timer of a few minutes or hours, use the Online Timer, which rings an alarm at zero.
