About this tool
Article 84 of the Saudi Labor Law gives a worker whose employment ends an end-of-service award of half a month’s wage for each of the first five years and one month’s wage for each year after that, based on the last wage, with part years counted in proportion. In practice the wage used is the full monthly wage: the basic salary plus housing, transport and other regular allowances.
When a worker resigns, Article 85 reduces the award: nothing for less than two years of service, a third for two to five years, two thirds for more than five and less than ten years, and the full award from ten years. Some cases keep the full award even when the worker leaves: leaving because the employer broke the contract (Article 81), force majeure, or a woman leaving within six months of marriage or three months of giving birth (Article 87). Dismissal for serious misconduct under Article 80 can remove the award.
Frequently asked questions
How is end of service calculated in Saudi Arabia?
Half a month’s wage for each of the first five years plus one month’s wage for each year after that, with part years in proportion (Article 84). For 8 years on 10,000 riyals a month: 5 × 5,000 + 3 × 10,000 = 55,000 riyals.
How much do I get if I resign?
Under Article 85: nothing below two years, a third of the award for two to five years, two thirds for more than five and less than ten years, and the full award from ten years.
Which wage is used?
The last wage. In practice that is the basic salary plus housing, transport and other fixed monthly allowances.
Is the end of a fixed-term contract a resignation?
No. When a fixed-term contract simply ends and is not renewed, the full Article 84 award applies. Choose “The contract ended, or the employer ended it”.
When do I keep the full award after leaving?
When you leave because the employer broke the contract or its legal duties (Article 81), because of force majeure, or, for women, within six months of marriage or three months of giving birth (Article 87).
Is this an ESB calculator?
Yes. ESB, EOSB and end of service benefit all mean the same award under the Saudi Labour Law, and this calculator works it out from your wage, years of service and how the job ended.
