About this tool
Arabic is harder to read automatically than English: letters join and change shape depending on their position, and small dots tell many letters apart. This tool uses Tesseract with its Arabic model, which reads printed text in common fonts such as Naskh well.
For the best accuracy, use a sharp, straight image with dark text on a light background, at 300 DPI or more for scans. Diacritics (tashkeel) are often dropped, and decorative or handwritten Arabic is much harder, so always proofread important text.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the Arabic OCR?
On clear printed text it is usually good enough to copy and edit. Poor light, small print, decorative fonts and handwriting reduce accuracy.
Does it keep tashkeel (diacritics)?
Often not. The short vowel marks are small and frequently missed, so add them back by hand if you need them.
Can it read handwritten Arabic?
Not reliably. It is designed for printed text.
Can I read Arabic and English in one image?
Yes. Keep Arabic selected and also select English.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Recognition runs in your browser; the image never leaves your device.
Can I turn an Arabic picture into text online?
Yes. Choose a photo, screenshot or scanned picture with Arabic writing and the Arabic OCR turns it into text you can copy. It runs online in your browser, but the picture itself is read on your device and never uploaded.
