How to use Typing Test

  1. Pick the language, the time (30 seconds to 5 minutes) and common words or sentences. The box is ready; the clock starts with your first letter.
  2. Type each word and press Space. The word you are on is lit; finished words turn green or red, and the line moves up by itself.
  3. When the time is up, read your words per minute, accuracy, correct and wrong words, and the words to practise.
  4. Share the result as text or download it as a picture, then try again to beat your best on this device.

Why use Typing Test

Three languages

English, Urdu and Arabic word lists and sentences, typed right to left where the language is, with the page itself in English.

Any keyboard counts

Urdu typed on an Arabic keyboard (ي ك ه for ی ک ہ) counts as right, and vowel marks never count as mistakes. On a computer without an Urdu or Arabic keyboard, switch on English keys to type by sound.

Honest numbers

English words per minute count five characters as a word, the standard measure; Urdu and Arabic count whole words. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that matched; deleting a slip costs nothing.

A card to share

About this tool

A typing test measures how many words you type in a minute (WPM) and how accurately. Most people type 35 to 45 words a minute; 60 and above is fast, and professional typists reach 80 or more. Accuracy matters as much as speed: a fast typist who backspaces half the time is slower than a steady one. This typing speed test uses everyday words, so it measures typing rather than reading, and starts the clock only when you type the first letter.

Urdu and Arabic are typed right to left and often on a phone keyboard or a phonetic layout, so the test treats the letters the way readers do: an Arabic keyboard's yeh, kaf and heh count as the Urdu letters, and tashkeel is ignored. Words per minute for those languages count whole words, since the five-character rule is made for English. Practise a few minutes a day, type the words to practise from your last result, and the speed follows.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good typing speed?

About 40 words a minute is average for adults, 60 or more is fast, and professional typists reach 80 to 100. Accuracy of 95% or better is what to aim for first; speed comes with it.

How is WPM worked out?

For English, correct characters (letters and the space after each correct word) divided by five, per minute, the standard measure. For Urdu and Arabic, correct whole words per minute.

Does deleting count against me?

No. Accuracy counts the keystrokes that matched the text; deleting and retyping costs time, not accuracy. A word committed with a mistake counts as a wrong word.

Can I take the Urdu or Arabic typing test on a computer without that keyboard?

Yes. Switch on "English keys" and type by sound: q w e r t y types ق و ع ر ت ے in Urdu, or the standard Arabic keyboard layout for Arabic. The key map shows under the box.

Is my result saved?

Your best score for each language and time is kept in this browser only. Nothing you type leaves your device.

Can I use it for typing practice?

Yes. Take the test as often as you like: your best score for each language and time is kept in this browser, so regular practice shows your progress.
