How to use Scientific Calculator
- Choose Degrees or Radians for sin, cos and tan.
- Build the sum with the keys, for example sin(30) × 2 + √16. Open brackets close themselves at the end.
- Press 2nd for the inverse functions: sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹, eˣ and 10ˣ.
- Press = for the answer. Ans uses it in the next sum.
Why use Scientific Calculator
Degrees or radians
sin(30) gives 0.5 in degrees; switch to radians for sin(π ÷ 2).
Inverse functions
The 2nd key turns sin, cos, tan, ln and log into sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹, eˣ and 10ˣ.
Powers and roots
x², xʸ, square roots and any root (3 ʸ√ 27 = 3), factorials, 1/x and scientific notation with EXP.
Clear answers
"Not defined" for tan(90°) or the log of zero, instead of a wrong number.
About this tool
This scientific calculator follows the usual order of operations: powers first, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. Powers group from the right, so 2^3^2 is 2^9 = 512, and a minus sign in front applies after the power, so −2² is −4. You can write 2π or 3(4 + 1) without a × sign, and the log calculator keys give natural (ln) and base-10 (log) logarithms.
Trigonometry works in degrees or radians. Results that should be exact are exact: sin(30°) is 0.5 and cos(90°) is 0. Values that do not exist, such as tan(90°), the square root of a negative number or the log of zero, show "Not defined". Very large or small numbers switch to scientific notation, such as 1.21576654591E19, and the factorial calculator key (x!) works for whole numbers up to 1,000.
Frequently asked questions
How do I switch between degrees and radians?
Use the Degrees and Radians switch above the display. It changes sin, cos and tan and their inverses.
How do I calculate a cube root?
Type 3, press ʸ√x, then type the number: 3 ʸ√ 27 gives 3. For a square root, use √.
What does EXP do?
It enters a power of ten: 2 EXP 5 is 2 × 10⁵ = 200,000.
What is Ans?
The answer to your last sum. Press Ans to use it again, for example Ans × 2.
Can I use the keyboard?
Yes. Type numbers and operators, press Enter for the answer and Backspace to delete. Use the buttons for functions such as sin, log and square root.
