About this tool

A quarter of an hour is long enough for real progress and short enough to start without dread: fifteen minutes of revision, a slice of homework for younger children, a daily walk, a quick cleaning session or the time a presentation slot allows. Breaking a big job into quarter hour blocks makes it easier to begin and to keep going.

This 15 minute timer is ready as soon as the page opens. It keeps time from the moment it will end, so it stays exact if you switch tabs, and rings with the sound you choose. For longer study sessions with breaks, try the focus timer, which alternates focus and rest for you.

Frequently asked questions

Is 15 minutes a good study session?

For younger students or a tired evening, yes. Many students work in 25 to 50 minute sessions with breaks; the focus timer does that for you.

Can the timer repeat every 15 minutes?

Yes. Turn on "Start again when it ends" and it rings every quarter hour until you stop it.

Will it keep counting if I switch apps?

The time stays exact, because it counts to a fixed end time. On a phone, keep the browser open and the screen on so the bell can ring.

Can I pause the 15 minute timer?

Yes. Press Pause to stop the countdown and Start to carry on from where it stopped. Reset puts it back to 15 minutes.

Does the 15 minute timer work on my phone?

Yes. Open the page in any phone browser and press Start. Keep the page open and the sound on, and the alarm rings when the 15 minute is up, even if you switch to another app for a moment.
