About this tool

Ten minutes is a sweet spot for short, focused bursts: a quick nap to recharge, a ten minute workout, a brisk walk, a tidy-up sprint, a timed reading or a group task in class. Sleep researchers have found that naps of about 10 to 20 minutes tend to refresh people without the grogginess that follows a longer nap.

This ten minute timer is set before you arrive, so there is nothing to type. It counts down from the moment it will end, so it stays exact when you switch tabs, and the sound is lined up when you press Start. Choose a softer sound for naps or the classic alarm to be sure you hear it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 10 minute nap long enough?

For many people, yes: studies of short naps found that about 10 minutes improved alertness quickly, without the grogginess of longer naps.

Which sound should I use to wake up?

Classic alarm or Beeps are the easiest to hear; Gentle chime is softer. Press Test to check the volume first.

Can I type a different time?

Yes. Type any hours, minutes and seconds in the boxes, or tap another quick time such as 15 or 20 minutes.

Can I pause the 10 minute timer?

Yes. Press Pause to stop the countdown and Start to carry on from where it stopped. Reset puts it back to 10 minutes.

Does the 10 minute timer work on my phone?

Yes. Open the page in any phone browser and press Start. Keep the page open and the sound on, and the alarm rings when the 10 minute is up, even if you switch to another app for a moment.
