About this tool
A coin toss is the oldest way to settle a choice between two options: who kicks off, who goes first, which of two films to watch. This virtual coin flip is as fair as a coin can be: each flip is a clean 50/50 drawn from your browser’s cryptographic random numbers, with no thumb, table or bounce to tip it either way.
Streaks are normal. In 10 flips, a run of three or more of the same side turns up about 8 times in 10, and each flip is independent, so after five heads the next flip is still 50/50. For a probability lesson, flip 10 coins at once and count how often exactly 5 land heads: about one time in four.
Frequently asked questions
Is this coin flip fair?
Yes. Each flip uses your browser’s cryptographic random numbers, so heads and tails are exactly equally likely, and one flip never affects the next.
Can I flip more than one coin?
Yes. Choose 2, 3, 5 or 10 coins and they are all flipped at once; the result shows how many came up heads and how many tails.
What are the odds of heads twice in a row?
One in four (25%): a half for the first flip times a half for the second. Three heads in a row is one in eight.
Why did I get so many heads in a row?
Streaks happen more often than people expect: in 10 flips, three or more of the same side in a row turns up about 8 times in 10. The next flip is still 50/50.
Does it keep my results?
Only on this page while it is open: the count and the last 30 flips. Nothing is sent anywhere, and Reset clears them.
Is this a heads or tails generator?
Yes. It works as a coin flip generator: every flip lands on heads or tails at random, with an exact 50/50 chance, using your browser's cryptographic random numbers.
