Why use Sort Alphabetically
Natural order
“Item 2” comes before “Item 10”, as people expect, instead of the computer order that puts 10 before 2.
Arabic and Urdu
Lists in Arabic or Urdu are sorted in their own alphabetical order, with the different forms of alef together.
More than A to Z
Z to A, shortest first, reverse the order or shuffle it at random: an A to Z sorter and more.
Cleans as it sorts
Blank lines go to the end, and duplicates can be removed in the same step.
About this tool
To alphabetize a list by hand is slow and easy to get wrong: guest lists, glossaries, bibliographies, class lists, product names or keywords. Paste the list and it is put in alphabetical order at once, with the rules dictionaries use, so capitals and small letters sort together and accented letters sit with their plain versions. Numbers inside the text are compared as numbers, so “Room 9” comes before “Room 10”.
Lists that contain Arabic or Urdu are sorted in Arabic alphabetical order. It works as an alphabetical order generator for any list. Choose Z to A for reverse alphabetical order, “Shortest first” to sort by length, “Reverse” to flip the list as it is, or “Shuffle” for a random order. The other tabs remove duplicates, clean up spaces, number the lines or join them into one line.
