How to use Transparent Background Maker
- Choose a picture of a logo, signature, stamp or drawing on a plain background, such as a phone photo of a signature on white paper. Or tap the example to see it work.
- The paper's colour is removed straight away, with nothing to download. Move Tolerance up to clear grey or shadowed paper, or down to keep pale ink.
- For a photo of a person or a product, switch to "Photo": the AI (about 55 MB, downloaded once) cuts the subject out instead.
- Save it as a PNG or WebP with a transparent background, ready for documents, slides, websites and stamps on forms.
Why use Transparent Background Maker
- Exact colour removal
- The background colour is read from the picture's edge and every pixel of that colour becomes transparent, so a white or coloured background goes in one step.
- Inside the letters too
- The whole picture is checked, not only what touches the edge, so the holes in O, A and B become transparent as well.
- Clean, soft edges
- Edge pixels keep their own colour with the paper's share taken out, so a dark signature has no white fringe on a coloured page.
- Photos with AI
- For photos of people, products and pets, the same page runs an AI cut-out on your device; switch between the two at any time.
About this tool
A transparent background lets a logo or signature sit on any page or colour without a white box around it. JPG cannot store transparency, so a transparent image has to be a PNG (or WebP), with an alpha channel that says how see-through each pixel is. This transparent background maker builds that channel from the colour of the background: it reads the most common colour along the picture's edge, then makes every pixel close to it transparent, with a soft step for anti-aliased edges. Because the whole picture is checked at once, the inside of letters clears too, which a "magic wand" that starts from one corner misses.
The Tolerance slider sets how different a shade must be from the paper to stay. A clean digital logo needs little; a phone photo of a signature, with shadows and uneven light, needs more, while very pale ink needs less. If a logo has white parts that must stay white, Touch up's Restore brush paints them back. This mode is made for flat artwork; to make a photo of a person or a product transparent, switch to Photo and the AI cuts the subject out, or open Remove Background.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an image background transparent?
Choose the picture here. For a logo, signature or drawing on plain paper, the background is removed at once; for a photo, switch to Photo and tap "Remove background". Then save it as a PNG. A white or plain background is removed the same way on an iPhone or an Android phone, in the browser, and the result is the same transparent PNG.
How do I remove the white background from a signature?
Sign on plain white paper, take a straight, well-lit photo, and choose it here: this signature background remover takes away the white paper and keeps the ink. If the paper looks grey in the photo, move Tolerance up until it clears.
Why does my saved image still show a white background?
Save as PNG or WebP: JPG cannot be transparent. Some photo viewers also draw transparent areas as white or black, so check it in the document or app where you use it.
Will it remove white parts inside my logo?
Yes, any part the same colour as the background becomes transparent, which is what clears letter holes. To keep a white part, use Touch up and paint it back with Restore.
Is this transparent PNG maker free and private?
Yes. This transparent image creator is free online, with no sign-up and no watermark, and the picture is made transparent in your browser without being uploaded.
Can it make a photo transparent?
Yes. Switch to "Photo": the AI finds the person, product or pet and removes everything else. It downloads once (about 55 MB) and then runs on your device.
