Why use Canada Visa Photo

IRCC measurements

A 35 × 45 mm frame with the head 31–36 mm from the chin to the crown.

Two identical photos

The print sheet repeats the same photo, so the two you send are identical.

Glasses allowed

Non-tinted prescription glasses are fine if your eyes are clearly visible; the tool reminds you of the rule.

Not altered

IRCC says digital photos must not be altered in any way, so the tool only crops and resizes.

About this tool

The photo requirements of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for visitor visas and other temporary resident visas (TRV) ask for two identical photos taken in the last six months. The frame must be at least 35 × 45 mm, and your head, from the chin to the crown, must measure between 31 and 36 mm. Use a plain white or light-coloured background, face the camera squarely with a neutral expression and your mouth closed, and keep your full facial features visible under any religious head covering.

This page is for visitor visa and other temporary resident photos. A Canadian passport is different: its photos are 50 × 70 mm and must be taken by a commercial photographer, so a home-made photo is not accepted there.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Canada visa photo?

At least 35 × 45 mm, with your head 31–36 mm from the chin to the crown.

Can I wear glasses in my Canada visa photo?

Yes, non-tinted prescription glasses, as long as your eyes are clearly visible.

Can I smile?

No. IRCC asks for a neutral expression, neither frowning nor smiling, with your mouth closed.

Can I use this for a Canadian passport?

No. Canadian passport photos are 50 × 70 mm and must be taken by a commercial photographer or studio.

Do I need printed photos or a digital one?

Online applications take a digital photo that you upload, while paper applications need two identical printed photos. This tool makes the digital file and a print sheet with two photos at 35 × 45 mm.

Is this Canada visa photo tool free online?

Yes. It is a free online Canada visa photo tool and editor, with no app and no upload: it crops and resizes your photo to the official size and specifications. It is not an official checker, so compare the result with the rules and requirements on the official website before you submit it.
