Why use GATE Photo and Signature

The signature clean-up keeps black or dark blue ink and whitens the paper.

About this tool

GATE 2027's photo requirements (IIT Madras) ask for a passport-size photo of 3.5 cm width by 4.5 cm height, between 200 × 260 and 530 × 690 pixels, a JPEG of 5–600 KB, on a white background, with your face covering 60–70% of the photo and looking into the camera. Glasses for vision are fine without glare; caps, hats, sunglasses and coloured glasses are not.

The signature is a JPEG of 3–300 KB, between 250 × 80 and 580 × 180 pixels, with a height-to-width ratio between 1 : 2.75 and 1 : 3.75, in black or dark blue ink only, covering 70–80% of the image. The organising IIT changes every year, so check the current GATE website; the numbers were the same for GATE 2026 and 2027.

Frequently asked questions

What is the GATE photo size?

3.5 × 4.5 cm, between 200 × 260 and 530 × 690 pixels, a JPEG of 5–600 KB, face 60–70% of the photo, white background.

What is the GATE signature size?

Between 250 × 80 and 580 × 180 pixels, 3–300 KB, height to width between 1 : 2.75 and 1 : 3.75, black or dark blue ink.

Can I wear glasses in the GATE photo?

Yes, normal glasses for vision are allowed if there is no glare. Coloured glasses and sunglasses are not.

Why was my GATE signature rejected?

Usually because it is too small in the image, the wrong shape, or signed in a colour other than black or dark blue.

Can I use a photo taken with my phone for GATE?

Yes, if it is a recent colour photo with a plain light background, your face clearly visible and no shadows. Crop it here so it fits the GOAPS pixel and file size limits.

Is this a GATE photo size converter?

Yes. It converts your photo and signature to the sizes the GATE exam application form asks for, in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
